Services

As an independent college counselor (also mentor, cheerleader, confidant, and occasional tough-love-giver), I support students and partner with their families to provide individualized support and expertise on the holistic review process used by selective institutions. I believe in empowering students to identify the best-fit college so that ultimately it’s not about where they “get in” but where they choose to go!

Initial Conversation

My ideal time to connect with a student and their family is during the student’s freshman or sophomore year. However, the benefit of an individualized approach is that I am able to support you wherever you are in your process.

The initial conversation is simply that - a conversation. During the peak of the college application process, we can spend up to five hours working together in a single week. Therefore, it’s important that it’s a fit both for the student and myself. In this free, thirty-minute call, we will discuss your academic profile, interests, and aspirations and how I can support you with pursuing your goals.

High School Advising

Before thinking about the parts of an application, we discuss how to have a fulfilling high school experience that allows you to develop into who you want to be as a person, not just checking boxes along the way. For some students, this means adding depth to things you’ve already done and, for others, it means exploring and developing your passions.

This may include advisement on high school courses, extracurricular involvement, and summer programs. There’s not a scripted formula that leads to admission offers. Therefore, I offer guidance on where to best direct your time and energy based on your interests and long-term goals.

College List Development

I do extensive research in order to help you create a list of reach, target, and foundation schools that you’re excited about! I take into consideration intended major, involvement opportunities, location, size, scholarship opportunities, etc., and craft a personalized list tailored to your preferences.

Activities List and Resume Development

In my experience, students tend to undersell themselves a bit when reporting their extracurricular involvement on their applications. I work with students to present their accomplishments in a way that not only demonstrates how they spent their time while in high school but also quantifies their impact within their involvement. From athletes and musicians to scientists and entrepreneurs, how you spend your time looks different for each student, and I enjoy crafting a personalized approach that allows each student to present their accomplishments in a way that is authentic to them.

Essay Writing

From initial brainstorming to outlines, drafts, revisions, and polishing, I collaborate with students on the Common App essay/Personal Statement and all supplemental essays. My goal is that students not only write a strong essay that complements the entirety of their application but also is something that they are truly proud of!

Additional Materials Support

Because each institution has its own process and approach, I use my institutional knowledge and expertise to guide students on appropriately demonstrating interest where it matters - effectively communicating with admissions officers, prepping for interviews when available, and supplying teachers with resources when asking for letters of recommendation.

Application Management

With varying deadlines, decision plans, and application requirements, students and families often share that they feel overwhelmed with navigating the college application process. I enjoy anchoring the experience by ensuring that students and their families feel well informed and prepared for deadlines and requirements.

I will manage the entire application process from start to finish - including being proactive with deadlines - so students feel less stressed, more successful, and joyful during their senior year of high school!

Flexibility

One of the things that distinguishes my approach from other independent counselors is my flexibility. I recognize that students are often being pulled in many different directions with conflicting priorities, and because I only work with a few students independently each year, I have the flexibility to meet them where they are through a less structured approach. Sometimes, we only need to meet for twenty minutes to review a 100-word supplement or add a leadership position to your resume, other times, we need two to three hours to polish an application. If your English teacher announces an unexpected quiz and you need to reschedule our meeting last minute to study, that’s OK. If you procrastinated a bit too much and you’re simply not prepared for our conversation, that’s OK, too. I’m practical and care not only about your college application experience and outcomes but seeing you as an individual through a holistic, comprehensive approach that recognizes, sometimes, I’m not your only priority.
